Sanibel artist Myra Roberts announced on December 20 the release of Project Tolerance, a collection of 30 oil paintings about famed diarist Anne Frank. The glossy, 58-page art catalogue contains color plates of Anne Frank at various stages in her life, from a young girl enjoying the countryside in the Netherlands to her imprisonment in a Nazi concentration camp. “Anne’s wish to go on living even after her death is more important than ever,” said Roberts. “Her words continue to educate humanity about the consequences of intolerance, racism and discrimination. My hope for the series of exhibits featuring Anne is for the next generation to build a better world – based on mutual respect.” Roberts traveled to Holland in the summer of 2010 with her husband, Wes, to see the Anne Frank Museum. The paintings bring Anne Frank to life in a new and original fashion, and a comment by the artist accompanies each painting. The exhibits of her Anne Frank paintings include The Holocaust Museum and Education Center of Southwest Florida (January 5-29, 2012), Shell Point Retirement Community (February 3), and the Sydney & Berne Art Davis Center (March 2-29).
