Sanibel Island Bookshop’s Consignment Policy
  • Sanibel Island Bookshop will pay 60% of the retail price to the consignor.
  • There is a $25 non-refundable consignment handling fee.
  • Sanibel Island Bookshop will initially take 5 copies of the book.
  • Sanibel Island Bookshop agrees to carry books left here on a consignment basis for 3 months in our local section.
  • During that period, Sanibel Island Bookshop may contact the consignor to request additional quantities for sale.
  • Sanibel Island Bookshop will issue a check after 5 or more books have been sold or at the end of the contract.
  • Sanibel Island Bookshop will donate to nonprofits those books left here by authors for more than a month after authors have been contacted to pick up their books.
  • Shipping charges are the responsibility of the consignor.
  • Sanibel Island Bookshop will only pay for items that were sold: damaged or stolen items are the sole financial responsibility of the consignor.


If you would like to have a book signing to promote your book:

Sanibel Island Bookshop will offer a table book signing for a fee of $50 (in addition to the consignment fee) which includes:
  • 2 hour book signing, email blast, one promotional flyer on facebook, an ad in the local newspaper, space in our newsletter (if put on the schedule in time), space on our website and a flyer in the store.
  • Books must be in the store and a confirmation of the time and date must be sent to sanibelbookshop@aol.com 7 days in advance or book signing will be canceled and fee will be forfeited.
  • Author must provide a jpg. of the book cover and a brief description sent to sanibelbookshop@aol.com

Tips For a Successful Consignment

• Encourage your friends, family, and other contacts to purchase books, and especially YOUR BOOK, at Sanibel Island Bookshop.


• Contact your local media and mailing lists to let them know that the book is available at Sanibel Island Bookshop.


• Send out press releases, review copies, and other promotional materials.


• Get involved with bookclubs, libraries, and other community organizations


• Get involved with the American Booksellers Association through IndieBound.org. If your book has an ISBN and you list with the ABA your book is made available through indie booksellers nationally.


Note: Sanibel Island Bookshop reserves the right to refuse any book for consignment deemed unsuitable for sale in the store
